Scaling of precipitation extremes with temperature in China’s mainland: Evaluation of satellite precipitation data

چکیده

• Four types of temperature sampling are compared for scaling precipitation extremes. The peak structure remains in the extreme precipitation‐temperature relationship. IMERG’s daily rate is close to observation. Against expectations, 30-min precipitations much smaller. This study explores sensitivity (termed factor, SF) and 30-minute extremes with several variables, i.e., within-day surface air (SAT) dew point (DPT), antecedent SAT DPT (corresponding temperatures one day before a event, denoted as SAT-C DPT-C) across China’s mainland. To this end, we used observed meteorological data from CN05.1 dataset Integrated Multisatellite Retrievals Global Precipitation Measurement (IMERG). Our results reveal mix positive negative SFs climatic zones, peak-like structures developing at higher (between 17 24 °C). Although almost all turn when SAT-C, DPT, DPT-C used, over some parts each climate zone, especially tropical regions. A comparison between full range reveals that single not valid entire range. Moreover, calculated based on (for four temperatures) follow better Clausius-Clapeyron (∼7%/°C) than except region. Daily IMERG mostly comparable results, discrepancies mainly plateau climates (roughly 25% area). However, do rise expected (even decrease country) increasing temperatures, contrary common observations reported previous studies. It suggests another needed scale, least

Evaluation of Precipitation Products of TRMM Satellite in Precipitation and Erosion Rate Monitoring across Iran

Extended abstract 1- Introduction     In order to calculate the erosive power of rainfall, high-resolution precipitation data are necessary for rainfall erosion evaluation. However, collecting the required data on kinetic energy of the rainfall particles and precipitation rates with short-term temporal resolution is a time-intensive task, particularly in developing countries, and the collecte...

Influence of microphysics on the scaling of precipitation extremes with temperature

The Lin-hail microphysics scheme is based on Lin et al. (1983) as modified by the Goddard Cumulus Ensemble Modeling Group (Tao and Simpson, 1993; Braun and Tao, 2000). It includes six classes of water species representing water vapor, cloud water, cloud ice, rain, snow and hail. The size distributions of the precipitating species (rain, snow and hail) are assumed to follow an exponential distri...

Detectability of anthropogenic changes in annual temperature and precipitation extremes

This paper reports on a study of temperature and precipitation indices that may be suitable for the early detection of anthropogenic change in climatic extremes. Anthropogenic changes in daily minimum and maximum temperature and precipitation over land simulated with two different atmosphere-ocean general circulation models are analyzed. The use of data from two models helps to assess which cha...
